THE HEATS ON Japan House has jazz tonight, with a concert at P.M. by Mas Yajima, the pianist, and his trio’ (admission $4). Mr. Yajima formed his trio in 1973. The members are Kenneth Kershen, who wrote for the B.T. Express; Louie Mins, a club performer, and John Fair, who has played with Duke Ellington, Count Basle and Hazel Scott. Mr. Yajima is a faculty member of the New York School of Music.
If tonight’s groovy sounds seem out of place amid the austere beauty of Japan House, at 333 East 47th Street (between First and Second. Avenues), it . should be remembered that Japan is on of the most thriving markets for live and recorded jazz today. American exponents are performing there before large audiences. Jazz records are being made here that are geared solely for listening in Japan.
Hello, Please give this email to Mr Mas Yajima 2011/04/01
Thanks You
My Name is Kenny Kershen, I was a member of The Mas Yajima Trio in the mid 70’s when I was very young. I am trying to contact my old friend. We played at Milanos on West 72nd Street in New York City for several years as well as
The Japan Society and The Village Gate. During my time with Mas, John Fair was on bass along with Lou Mims on vocals. It has been many years since I spoke to Mas, I am now 51 & have found his school on the internet.
Thank You So Much, Domo Arigato —–Kenneth Kershen—–
